Pumpkin Carving

Bring your creativity (and maybe a little chaos). Participants are invited to submit one carved pumpkin for judging. Designs can be spooky, funny, artistic, traditional, or completely original. Carved pumpkins will be dropped off the evening before, to be set up all day for crowd judging.

The rules are as follows:

- one pumpkin per participant

- pumpkins must be carved by the participant entering

- no inappropriate of offensive designs (will result in disqualification)

- entries must be completed and dropped off evening before (Oct. 2nd)

- crowd will judge for their favorite pumpkin carving via drop box at showcase area

- winner will be announced immediately after all votes are counted at allotted timeslot and prize awarded

Prize: 1st $100 | 2nd $75 | 3rd $50

Biggest Turnip

A true Newfoundland and Labrador style garden showdown. Bring your biggest turnip and claim ultimate root vegetable glory.

The rules are as follows:

- home grown turnips only (stalks included)

- one entry per participant

- entries measured/weighed on site during competition

- turnips must be cleaned and free from dirt/debris

- winner will be announced immediately following competition and prize awarded

Prize: $100

Biggest Cabbage

Think your garden grew a monster this year? Bring in your largest cabbage and see how it stacks up against the competition.

The rules are as follows:

- open to home grown cabbage only

- one entry per participant

- cabbage must be clean of dirt/debris

- cabbage will be measured/weighed during competition

- winner will be announced immediately following judging and prize awarded

Prize: $100

Hay Bale Chuckin'

You'll see hay bales flying at Ye Matthew Legacy during Harbour Fall Fest! The rules are as follows:

- competitors will line up and when their turn comes, pick up the bale of hay and line up their shot

- the hay bale must clear the pole without hitting the pole

- the competitors will cycle through until the last competitor remains

- winner will be announced when the last competitor cannot clear the pole with the hay bale

- prize will be awarded immediately following competition

Don't skip arm day, and bring out the big guns for this Hay Bale Chuckin' competition!

Prize: $50

Perfect Preserves

A celebration of homemade preserving traditions featuring strawberry-based jams. Whether it's a classic recipes or a family secret passed down for generations, we want to taste it.

The rules are as follows:

- entries must be homemade

- strawberries must be the base ingredient, but add ins are allowed (examples such as: rhubarb, apple, etc.)

- judging based on taste, texture, consistency

- please include an allergy awareness if common allergen is present in ingredients list.

Prize: $200

Carrot Cake Bake Off

Calling all home bakers! Bring your best carrot cake recipe and compete for bragging rights as Harbour Fall Fest's carrot cake champion. Traditional, rustic, fancy, cream cheese frosting towers, all styles welcome.

The rules are as follows:

- entries must be homemade

- one entry per participant

- cakes should be ready for presentation upon arrival

- judging based on presentation, flavor, and texture.

- please include a note of allergy awareness if common allergen is present in ingredients list.

Prize: $200

Weirdest Carrot

Crooked, twisted, forked, human-shaped, the weirder the better. This competition celebrates the strangest carrots your garden anaged to produce this season.

The rules are as follows:

- home grown carrots only (stalks included)

- one entry per participant

- naturally grown shapes only (no alterations or carving)

- judging based on uniqueness, shape, and entertainment value.

- winner will be announced immediately following judging and prize awarded
